La tesis doctoral de Isabel Muñoz Machín, presentada al Premio INAP 2011, argumenta cómo la metodología Lean y la Dirección de Proyectos pueden implantarse en entornos sanitarios complejos para mejorar su gestión.

Añade un sexto principio complementario a los cinco definidos por los que son considerados como creadores del pensamiento Lean Womack y Jones (lean Thinking 2003): valor, flujo, flujo de valor, pull y perfección. Este sexto principio serían las personas.
