Un proyecto de espigamiento agrícola recoge más de 8.000 kilos de frutas y verduras que se han destinado a cerca 500 familias en riesgo de exclusión social

Buruxka, en euskera ‘espiga’, es un innovador proyecto promovido por el Ayuntamiento del Valle de Yerri-Deierri, la Universidad Pública de Navarra (UPNA) y el Instituto Navarro de Tecnologías e Infraestructuras Agroalimentarias (INTIA). Se trata de un proyecto que recupera la práctica del espigamiento, que consiste en recoger los alimentos que quedan tras la cosecha y que no se destinan a la venta. Con la colaboración de agricultores, que ponen a disposición sus campos, entidades sociales que los hacen llegar a personas en situación de vulnerabilidad; y personas voluntarias que realizan los espigamientos, este proyecto ha permitido redistribuir 8.030 kilos de alimentos a más de 500 familias en riesgo de exclusión social.

Burutxka in Basque ‘spike’ is an innovative project promoted by the Yerri Valley City Council, the Public University of Navarra (UPNA) and the Navarro Institute of Agrifood Technologies and Infrastructures (INTIA), a public company attached to the Department of Rural Development and Environment of the Government of Navarra. It is a project that recovers the practice of gleaning, which consists of collecting the food that remains after the harvest and that is not intended for sale because it is somewhat defective or bruised. It is based on a network where food is reused, and it is redistributed to people who are going through a difficult situation. With the collaboration of farmers, who make their fields available, social entities that make them reach people in vulnerable situations; and volunteers who carry out the gleaning, this project has allowed the redistribution of 8,030 kilos of food to more than 500 families at risk of social exclusion.
